This neighborhood institution has been here forever. It spans at least fifty years as I remember. It was forever a family run KFC, a place where I'd satisfy fried chicken and comfort food cravings with their two or three piece meals, usually with corn and mashed potatoes and gravy. I'd enjoy the biscuits which I buttered up while warm. For splurges for my father, brother, and myself, I'd get their apple turnovers as a guilty treat. Fast forward forty plus years and, in the modern world of mergers and consolidation, KFC and Taco Bell became unusual cuisine partners. In recent years, my menu lean has been towards the taco side since we are more health conscious these days. I usually bought the three taco supreme meals which mostly became a series of snacks and a large cole slaw as my veg accompaniment for dinners at home. Taco bell has been featuring a number of menu items that they discontinued including the Mexican pizza recently. In seeing a TV commercial in the last few weeks, I made a point to check out the new item. I enjoyed the crispy tortilla that had a slight crunch. The filling is standard except the added jalapeno slices which was unexpected; not spicy but perhaps pickled. While ordering, I got confused when the cashier asked me beef or chicken in asking for the double steak grilled burrito. Since I technically didn't get the advertised one, you know what I'll order on my next visit and perhaps my go-to, taco supreme. Always great memories of this place since I still see former staff from here at other workplaces now (Thanks, Tommy and Dennis!).
